This course is an introduction to the flow of air through a freight car air brake system.
Course objectives: Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
1. Identify air brake equipment and systems.
2. Understand the functionality of each air brake component.
3. Understand the flow of air through a freight car air brake system.
4. Determine approved testing and maintenance for freight car air brake systems.
5. Perform basic troubleshooting of an air brake system.
Prerequisites: Freight Car Repair Track Inspector (strongly recommended)
Freight Car Trainyard Inspection (strongly recommended).
Required equipment: Safety-toed boots, safety glasses, gloves, earplugs
