What You Will Learn

This course provides students with a basic familiarization of EMD locomotives. Students are instructed in the fuel, lube oil, cooling, air and other mechanical systems to understand how to safely inspect, test and repair locomotives.

Course objectives: Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

1. Have a basic understanding of how the various systems function on an EMD locomotive.

2. Perform periodic and system diagnostic tests and inspections on an EMD locomotive.

3. Locate, identify, troubleshoot and repair various mechanical parts on an EMD locomotive.

Required equipment: Safety-toed boots, safety glasses, gloves

IMPORTANT TO NOTE: Only railroad industry employees may enroll in this course. Enrollment must be completed online.
