This comprehensive course teaches not only the basics of applying electrodes and operating the ECG machine but also how to read and interpret ECGs and differentiate cardiac rhythms. This program consists of two parts: Part I includes over 50 hours of didactic and practical training on the JCCC campus, and Part II consists of an externship at a local hospital facility where students complete a minimum of 10 ECGs on live individuals, which is required to sit for the Certified EKG Technician (CET) exam from the National Healthcareer Association (NHA). The externship is usually completed in one, 6-hour shift, but can take 1-3 shifts to complete. Completion of both Part I and Part II is mandatory for successful completion of this course.
To be successful in this course students must be able to communicate effectively in English (spoken and written) to support safe patient care during labs and the externship/clinical experience, including reading program materials, following instructions, and completing clinical documentation.
Acceptance to this course is by selective admission only. Applications can be found here. A payment plan is available for this program. This course is not eligible for the Take 3 Discount.
