What You Will Learn

Explore how nature functions in the home landscape and how your yard can become part of a larger ecological system.  This course introduces the core principles of ecological gardening, including the relationships among soil, water, plants, insects, and wildlife.  Participants will learn how native plants support biodiversity and how small changes in residential landscapes can contribute to healthier ecosystems.  Designed for beginners and curious homeowners who desire to convert their lawns into habitat gardens, this class also highlights the role of individuals as environmental stewards and introduces the concept of regenerative landscapes – designs that improve ecological health over time.
What you’ll learn:
• The difference between conventional ornamental landscapes and ecological systems
• The mindset shift required to garden in a more ecological way
• How individual properties contribute to regional habitat networks
