Impressions of Hawaii in Acrylic: Seaside Hideaway
What You Will Learn
Ready to bring the rugged beauty of Hawaii’s seaside hideaways to life on canvas? Capture the islands’ hidden shores while exploring the luminous world of Impressionist painting. Inspired by Claude Monet and other early French masters, this four-week course guides students—beginner through advanced—through the foundations and techniques of the Impressionist style. Along the way, you’ll build skills in color mixing, brushwork, and composition as you develop your own expressive approach. By the end of the course, you’ll complete a full acrylic painting on canvas that reflects both your progress and your personal vision of Hawaii’s dramatic seascape.The following materials are needed for the class:
- Acrylic Paint Set - High-quality, thick-bodied paint is recommended. 2 Oz paint tubes are sufficient for most colors, unless specified
- Ultramarine Blue
- Cerulean Blue
- Phthalo Blue
- Phthalo Green
- Hookers Green
- Cadmium Yellow
- Yellow Ochre
- Burnt Sienna
- Raw Umber
- Titanium White - 6oz
- Payne’s Gray
- Translucent paste, glaze or impasto. (This is used for building texture)
- Acrylic Brushes - Exact brush types/sizes can be substituted for similar size/type
- Round 1, Round 6
- Bright 6
- Filbert 8, and Flat 12.
- Canvas should be between 11x14 to 18 x 2, options are Stretched Canvas, Gesso Board, Canvas board - pre-primed with Gesso. Larger canvas can be used, but will require more paint.
- Misc
- Painters Palette
- Pallet knives
- Paper Towels
- Plastic cup for washing brushes
