What You Will Learn

In this short and intense course the student will apply welding safety and develop skills in gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW) processes. The student will learn to set up the GTAW Workstation correctly and safely. A review of power sources and polarities and filler metal identification will be made. Students will perform welding procedures in flat and horizontal positions with fillet and groove welds, and maintenance of GTAW equipment. Students will be required to purchase and use personal protective equipment (PPE). The following items are required:

  • Welding Helmet, with #10 Lens
  • Welding Cap
  • Safety Glasses
  • Gloves
  • No tennis shoes or sandals. Must wear closed toe shoes/boots.
  • No shorts or short sleeves allowed in lab. Must wear jeans and cotton long sleeve shirt.

Certification

TIG Welding Certificate

Welding thick sections of stainless steel or non-ferrous metals is the most common use of this welding process. TIG Welding uses a consumable tungsten electrode to produce the weld, and in some cases hand-held welding rod is used for filler metal. This skill used in high quality applications such as aerospace takes a steady hand and trained eye to master.

The nation's aging infrastructure has sparked a demand for welders in industries such as, construction, manufacturing, and oil and gas. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics well-trained welders can make more than $66,000 per year. Our Welding Certificate can enhance your current career or position you to enter the workforce as a well-rounded welder or specialized in a singular process.
